Continuing Education
Many students need more flexible programming to meet their individual needs. As a result, Dodge City Community College offers many continuing education and retraining opportunities through alternative scheduling and delivery systems. These include the Adult Degree Program, AccessUs, EduKan, Night School, Summer School, Outreach, and Non-Traditional Studies.
Students enroll in these courses for personal, professional, and academic enrichment. They find that the course content maintains the same academic quality and credit value as classes taken in more traditional ways.
Adult Degree Program (ADP)
Dodge City Community College’s Adult Degree Program (ADP) combines traditional courses with non-traditional studies courses to enable students to earn an associate degree in five semesters. Students spend one night a week and two Saturdays every month attending classes.
In this group learning experience, students form bonds of support among themselves as they move through a series of courses, each set up in six-week modules.
The class schedule is an easy-to-manage 12 to 13 credit hours per semester, in courses delivered each Tuesday evening and two Saturdays per month. In addition, students enroll in a selection of self-paced Non-traditional Studies courses.
The program is designed for adults who are 21 years old or older, have completed high school or the GED, and who can devote one evening per week and two Saturdays per month to classes.
Additionally, ADP is the choice of students who are highly motivated to finish their degree, can schedule time around the demands of classes, and who like working with other students with similar goals.
ADP students graduate with an accredited degree that can transfer to any four-year college or university.

AccessUs
Bachelor’s degrees on community college campuses
Dodge City Community College and five other western Kansas community colleges are partnering with Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, and Kansas State University to operate AccessUs. Bachelor’s degree classes are taught on the community college campuses, and coordinators for each university’s programs are located on campus. For more information on AccessUs degree programs, call the Registrar’s office at 620-227-9402.
EduKan
Beginning in the spring of 1998, six presidents of western Kansas community colleges met to evaluate an online means of offering courses to their student populations. From these early meetings, EduKan was formed. EduKan is not a separate institution, but instead a cooperative effort between member colleges to offer courses via the internet beginning Fall 1999. Those who enroll in the online program will be able to take course work that may lead to an associate degree from one of six participating institutions.
The institutions involved include: Barton County Community College, in Great Bend; Colby Community College, in Colby; Dodge City Community College, in Dodge City; Garden City Community College, in Garden City; Pratt Community College, in Pratt; and Seward County Community College, in Liberal.
The EduKan courses offered each semester can be viewed under the Course section at www.edukan.org. All courses are offered for college credit and with the exception of the developmental course may count toward graduation requirements at any of the institutions. Courses are offered in a semester basis and most are offered for three credit hours/course.
The courses are recommended for adult learners who may not be able to take traditional classes due to conflicting schedules, multiple responsibilities and/or long driving distances. High school students who would like to get a head start on their college education are good candidates as well.
When you become a student through the EduKan site, you also become student members at the college you select. This college is responsible for providing a wide array of services to the student online. They include academic advising, career placement assistance, library services, transcript request, business office services, bookstore access and more. The goal is to provide any essential campus service via the Internet.
All faculty teaching through the EduKan consortium have teaching experience, online training and are respected members of their individual institutions. Complete biographies are listed online. Over 90% of the faculty also teach full-time at the member institutions.

Night School
Dodge City Community College provides a large number of classes during the late afternoon and evening hours. Students are encouraged to enroll in these classes in order to avoid conflict with work, family, and/or their college or high school class offerings.
Summer School
During the summer, Dodge City Community College offers a wide variety of courses during the day as well as at night. These classes increase the options for students in both traditional studies and continuing education activities. Summer sessions provide ideal opportunities for high school students to begin college classes early and for returning college students to accumulate additional credits or to accelerate their degree programs. In addition, many individuals find summer classes a convenient means of pursuing a personal interest or gaining continuing education credits.
Outreach
Dodge City Community College serves a nine county region which includes all of Ford, Hodgeman, Clark, and Ness counties and parts of Meade, Comanche, Kiowa, Edwards, and Gray counties. Within this area, DCCC offers academic and vocational college credit courses in 22 different communities. These Outreach offerings provide accessibility to students unable to attend on-campus classes. All Outreach courses are taught by qualified instructors and maintain the same academic quality and credit value as classes taken on campus.
Non-Traditional Studies
Dodge City Community College offers a variety of courses on a self-paced, open entry-open exit basis. This approach to education recognizes the realities of adult life: time and place constraints, personal and professional responsibilities, and the need for career-related learning. In Non-Traditional Studies, students may enroll at any time during the year and work under the supervision of an instructor at a comfortable rate and time. Examinations and conferences with the instructor can be scheduled to suit the students’ needs.
