    2014 Baseball Season Preview

After a 32-23 record and 3rd place Jayhawk West finish in 2013, The DC3 Baseball team is looking to build off of last year and push for the Jayhawk West crown.  With 16 returners, the Conqs have experience all over the diamond.  The Coaching Staff is excited about this year’s group and believe this is the most talented team in recent years.

The 2014 DCCC Baseball Schedule is going to test the Conqs early and often.  With early games against McCook JC, New Mexico Military and Cisco College, the DC3 squad will find out what kind of team they are from the very beginning.  The Conqs will also have home and home series with OPSU JV, NOC-Enid, Frank Phillips College, Brown Mackie College and a weekend trip to Longview CC to close out their Non-Conference Schedule.  As for the conference schedule, the Conqs will again be tested in the Jayhawk West and will look to improve on their 19-13 conference record from a year ago.

The 2014 pitching staff will be a solid group of returners and newcomers.  Sophomores Jagger Harjo, who signed with Emporia State University and Clayton Brewster, an Honorable mention All Conference selection last year, will lead this group.  Also returning is Sam Brunner, Spencer Bedwell, Giles Fox and Chase Wilson.   Brunner and Fox will once again be looked at to anchor the bullpen this year.  Bedwell and Wilson will look to provide quality innings after gaining valuable experience last year as freshman.  Freshmen Russell Mithlo, Luke Crabb, Jerry Kearney and Andrew Riddell will be looked at in a variety of roles and will be counted on to pitch big innings for DC.  While freshman Bryan McElroy, Anthony Bowmaker, Zac Seale, Damion Orr and Denver Johnston will provide depth and can all be used out of the bullpen or in mid-week games.

Haden Houska returns at SS and will anchor this young group of infielders.  Houska started every game at SS as a freshman and will be looked at to lead in the field and at the plate.  At 1st base, The Conqs have options and will look for sophomores Conner Koepp and Trent Troxell, as well as freshman Josh Williams to provide a big bat and solid defense.  Freshman Leno Ramirez and Sophomore Parker Jones will work the hot corner, with Bedwell also providing depth at 3rd.  Freshman Damion Orr and Bedwell will be counted on to provide stability at 2nd base, while Freshman Nathan Kelly will be used in a variety of roles because of his ability to play SS, 2nd and 3rd base.  Adley Davis, Croix Sedillo and Denver Johnston will provide depth on the infield.

The Conqs will have some new faces in the OF.  Sophomore Parker Jones will start the year in RF and will look to put up big numbers after a solid freshman year in which he hit 5 HR’s.  Local standout Jordan Doan will roam CF and will be looked upon to set the tone at the top of the lineup.  Freshman Hayden Simmons will provide athleticism to the lineup, with returners Croix Sedillo, Jacob Bellamy and Dylan Roy providing depth.  Transfers Nick Ragias and Blaine Birdwell will also be in the mix for playing time.

The DC3 catchers will be an experienced group.  After proving to be one of the best defensive catchers in the conference his freshman year, Jerry Lacayo returns and will bring leadership and toughness behind the plate.  Sophomore Connor Koepp and freshman Jorden Fields will both bring an offensive presence to the position.  BJ Tieben will also provide depth at the position.
