Oscar Zelaya was born in Honduras and moved to Miami Florida at the age of thirteen where he continued to play soccer. Oscar graduated from Miami Palmetto High School as a soccer player; a year later he decided to make the drastic move to Garden City Kansas to play soccer. While at GCCC, he played an important role in helping the team place 4th at Nationals. He was named Kansas Jayhawk All Conference first Team as a defender in 2008. Oscar graduated with Associate’s degree in science. After his stint at GCCC, he continued to pursue his dream on the field and played for Rogers State University in Oklahoma, Southern Premiere Soccer League (SPSL) in Oklahoma, Premier Development League (PDL) in Missouri, and Semi-pro indoor league as well.
Knowing the game as a player, Oscar can relate to the team and their needs. The top focus for him as an assistant coach is to make this a memorable and outstanding year for the program. He hopes to use his first year with DCCC to contribute to Coach Romanello and help the team achieve all the goals set for the year.
Oscar is married to Leydi Zelaya, a resident of Garden City, KS. They have a beautiful 2 year old daughter named Chelsea. He hopes that Chelsea will follow in his footsteps and love soccer as much as much as he does. Coach Zelaya can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
