DODGE CITY, Kan. – The Dodge City Community College baseball team swept Brown Mackie College in a doubleheader, 4-2 and 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at Cavalier Field.
In game two of the twin bill, sophomore Sam Brunner (Fort Collins, Colo./Fort Collins HS) kept the Lions off balance with a strong performance on the mound.
The 6-foot-5 righty tossed five innings and allowed four hits, one run and no walks and struck out five batters.
Brunner did receive his insurance runs early in the game.
Haden Houska (Enid, Okla./Enid HS) opened the bottom of the first inning with a triple. The next batter, Damion Orr (Midwest City, Okla./Midwest City HS) grounded out to the first baseman, which allowed Houska to score.
Dylan Roy (Dodge City, Kan./Dodge City HS) scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the second inning.
In game two of the doubleheader, the Conqs pushed across two runs in the bottom of the first. Parker Jones (The Colony, Texas/The Colony HS) recorded a sacrifice fly and Jordan Doan (Dodge City, Kan./Dodge City HS) scored on an errant throw.
The Conqs added two more runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Doan walked and Jones doubled to put runners in scoring position. The very next batter, Leno Ramirez (Dover, Okla./Dover HS) singled to bring home both base runners.
Chase Wilson (Altus, Okla./Navajo HS) earned the win. The 6-foot-3 righty pitched six innings and allowed four hits, two runs and one walk and struck out two batters.
DCCC (15-5) returns to action March 15/16 with a four-game series at Colby Community College.
