The fourth year of the Summer Storytime reading program at the Dodge City Community College (DC3) Library kicks off on June 5. Happening on Wednesdays at both 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the library will host the storytelling series with themes focusing on adventure.
Children accompanied with their caregivers can participate, while families are encouraged to attend. Participants can enjoy the storytelling session, craft making, and a snack throughout the summer.
The program aims to promote a love for reading and learning among all who take part in this educational initiative.
Holy Mercer, Director of the DC3 Library, said, “We want to have families explore the many free resources and programs available at DC3. Storytime is an opportunity to be creative, interact with other families and children, increase literacy, explore the DC3 campus, and is a social time for caregivers. Many families stay after the program, play board games at the library, and explore Lake Charles, often staying to have a picnic. ”
The dates, themes, and book titles for each week are as follows: June 5, Friendship, “Library Lion”; June 12, Planetarium at Dodge City Public Library (2 and 3 p.m.); June 19, Hike/Farm Animals, “Let’s Go on a Hike”; June 26, Nutrition, “Don’t Eat That”; July 10, Adventure, “Starlit Trip to the Library”; July 17 , Camping, “Tacky Goes to Camp”; July 24, Dodge City Days, “How I Spent My Summer Vacation”; and July 31, Buffalo/Dodge City Days, “Buffalo Fluffalo.”
“New this year is a partnership with the Dodge City Public Library,” Mercer said. “Together, we are hosting the Ad Astra Mobile Planetarium on June 12. The times for the Storytimes (only on June 12) will be 2 and 3 p.m. The program provides astronomy and science education for students and adults in the Wichita, Kan., area and beyond. Using a 6-meter inflatable dome and 4K digital projection system, they create an immersive environment that can display the night sky as it appears from any location on Earth at any time in history – or from any vantage point in the solar system.”
The Summer Storytime program promises to be an engaging and enriching experience for all those who participate. Be sure to join this captivating storytelling experience that will transport you into another world.
