A total of eight students participated in the DC3 Library’s Read and CONQuer essay contest, although not all were able to attend the competition’s award reception on Oct. 24. On Thursday, Oct. 24, a reception was hosted at the Dodge City Community College (DC3) Library to announce the winners of the 2024 Read and CONQuer “Tell Us Who You Are” essay contest, which challenged students to write 350-word compositions about their unique stories and experiences. The Top Five students honored were: Amber Velasco, sophomore, Dodge City (first place); Dorothea Evebo, freshman, Sandane, Norway (second place); Alexis Bradshaw, freshman, Jetmore, Kan. (third place); Vicente Sandoval Basaulto, sophomore, El Quisco, Chile (fourth place); and Jose Figueroa, freshman, Santiago, Chile (fifth place). In addition, Daisy Marie Lopez, freshmen, Dodge City; Victoria Bautista Lara, sophomore, Dodge City; and Illias Kafi, freshman, Saint-Pierre-d’Irube, France, received Honorable Mention certificates. The essays are currently on display at the DC3 Library and later will be combined into a booklet with pictures of the authors.
