The Dodge City Community College (DC3) Music Department raised $240 in freewill donations for Compass Behavioral Health at its Broadway Extravaganza Concert on March 13.
Kerry J Kuplic, DC3 Professor of Vocal Music, said the idea for the donation came out of a Broadway concert song suggestion from Katherine Bowden, DC3 Interim Band Director, and Brian Richardson, Compass Case Manager (and choir member). Both recommended the choir perform “You Will Be Found” by Dear Evan Hansen.
“It’s a very powerful song that speaks of the importance of knowing that no matter how dark life can seem, no one is alone. There will always be someone there for us,” he said. “Once we decided on that song, raising money for Compass just seemed to click—it seemed like a perfect organization to support.”
After speaking with Compass Program Manager, Nichole Broils, in the weeks before the concert, the group decided to earmark the donations for Compass Behavioral Health’s Dodge City Community Support Services, he said.
In addition to collecting donations for Compass at the concert, Broils was also in attendance at the March 13 concert to help build awareness and share literature about the services Compass provides.
