During Homecoming Week, Dodge City Community College (DC3) hosted a tree-planting ceremony on Oct. 8 honoring the late Althea White, a former member of the college’s Board of Trustees.
White graduated from DC3 in 1955 and served on the Board of Trustees from 1983 to 1991 and again from 1993 to 1997. She was the daughter-in-law of Hugh E. White, a former DC3 Board of Trustees chairman who served on the college’s inaugural board when it was established in 1965 and remained a trustee until 1981. Hugh White passed away in 1993 at age 88, while Althea White passed away on May 13, 2026, at age 90.
Several family members and friends attended the ceremony, including her son, Kurt White, of Wichita, Kan., who also served as a DC3 trustee from 2001 to 2002; daughter, Kathi Rohr, of Phoenix, Ariz.; and grandson, Darryn Rohr, of Hutchinson, Kan.
The ceremony featured remarks from DC3 President Harold Nolte and Board of Trustees Vice Chair Kathy Ramsour, as well as performances by the DC3 band and cheer team of the college’s alma mater, “Hail the Purple and Gold,” and fight song, “Hail Dodge City.”
