The Electrical Technology program prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills for employment in electrical construction and maintenance. Instructional areas include safety, electrical theory, blueprint reading, wiring, electrical construction, residential and commercial electricity, and National Electric Code.
The DC3 Electrical Technology program is aligned with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) CIP code 47.0302: Electrician. A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to install, operate, maintain, and repair electric apparatus and systems such as residential, commercial, and industrial electric-power wiring; and DC and AC motors, controls, and electrical distribution panels. Includes instruction in the principles of electronics and electrical systems, wiring, power transmission, safety, industrial and household appliances, job estimation, electrical testing and inspection, and applicable codes and standards.
Students in the Electrical Technology program are eligible to earn National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) Greenlee certifications in areas such as:
Program graduates also complete OSHA 30 certification and are prepared to take the Journeyman or Residential Electrician exam. Passing the exam, combined with verified field experience qualifies an individual to become a licensed electrician.
