On Thursday, March 5, a group of 113 area high school students toured local construction sites, met with contractors and learned about the DC3 Building Construction Technology Program, as part of the 2020 Construction Day.
As part of the day’s activities, representatives from Building Solutions, LLC; Christian Brothers Construction, LLC; Conant Construction, LLC; M.R. Builder, LLC; Mead Lumber; and Sutherlands Dodge City led tours and talked to students about the construction trade. In addition, Pat Shiew, DC3 professor of building/construction tech, along with his construction technology students, showed off the program’s new build at 806 Westlawn and gave demonstrations about different building construction techniques.
During lunch at the DC3 Student Activity Center, Dr. Harold Nolte, DC3 president, and Dr. Clayton Tatro, DC3 vice president of workforce development, awarded the following seniors with scholarships: Andy Aguilera, Alberto Armendariz, Maximo Avalos, Ty Bacon, Joshua Bertholf, Jordy Chavez, Jose Corpus Jr., Gustavo Fernandez, Isaac Flax, Angel Guzman, Guadalupe Hipolito, Bryan Holz, Diego Lozano, Luis Melendez, Alex Josue Marquina-Mendez, Roberto Millon-Lopez, Ricardo Morales, Martin Carrera Navarrete, Joel Negrete, Medel Orozco, Adrian Perez, Eduardo Rojas, Cedric Rosales, Andrew Schultz, and Erick Velasco.
High schools represented at the event included Dighton, Dodge City, Hodgeman County, Kiowa County, Minneola, and Ness City.
