Teaming up with a local animal rescue organization SWKS K9 Pawsibilities, DC3 is trying to raise awareness and support for animal adoption and rescue efforts. Attendees at this come-and-go event, will have the opportunity to learn more about the services provided by SWKS K9 Pawsibilities and how they can help local animals in need.
Jay Gooldy, DC3 Instructor of English, said, “This event marks the first step in a multi-semester initiative aimed at addressing the challenges of overpopulation, abandonment, abuse, and pet owner education in Dodge City. We recognize the urgency of these issues, and the students of DC3, in collaboration with our partners, are committed to raising awareness and delivering meaningful, lasting solutions for our community.”
Dawn Meredith, of SWKS K9 Pawsibilities, said, “We are so happy to be working with Dodge City Community College and Mr. Gooldy! We are thrilled to share the importance of service work and animal rescue with the students and to have the opportunity for events just like the adoption event coming up.”
In addition to the Rescue Pawty’s goal of trying to find permanent homes for shelter dogs and cats during a special meet-and-greet time, attendees are also encouraged to bring donations of food, toys, and treats for the animals—as well as lots of hugs.
Gooldy said the Rescue Pawty partnership highlights the commitment of DC3 and the community to promote animal welfare and encourages responsible pet ownership. However, this event is only one-way DC3 is raising awareness. Gooldy also will incorporate topic in his English Composition I class next semester.
As for this event, Gooldy said, “Make sure to stop by and snuggle with your favorite furry friend. Who knows? You might find yourself a new member of the family.”
